Beer cocktail recipe

Mexicans love their cerveza, or chela (slang for beer). It’s no wonder they would take their passion one step further and create cervezas preparadas, or beer cocktails. The basic cerveza preparada is called a chelada: beer plus ice, lime, and salt. There are regional variations in the ingredients, but a michelada (which is also considered a good remedy for a hangover) adds Worcestershire sauce and hot sauce to a chelada.

  • Yield: 1 cocktail

  • Ice
  • 12 ounces pale Mexican beer
  • Dash of Worcestershire sauce
  • Hot sauce
  • ½ lime
  • Pinch of salt
How to Make It
  1. Fill a chilled pint glass with ice and pour in the beer.
  2. Add the Worcestershire sauce, a few dashes of hot sauce, and the juice of the lime.
  3. Finish it off with a pinch of salt and serve.
