This Cajun classic combines ham, rice, and vegetables a terrifically flavorful one-dish meal.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups long-grain white rice
  • 2 slices bacon
  • ½ pound okra, trimmed and sliced ¼-inch thick
  • 1 green bell pepper, diced
  • 1 onion, diced
  • 3 garlic cloves, minced
  • 4 cups chicken broth
  • 1 can (15 ounces) diced tomatoes with juice
  • 2 dashes hot pepper sauce, or more to taste
  • ½ pound smoked ham or turkey breast, diced
  • ¼ cup chopped fresh parsley
  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper
