Hot cross buns recipe

Ingredients

  • 3 cups self raising flour
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 1 teaspoon mixed spice
  • Milk
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon ground nutmeg
Crosses
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • ½ cup plain flour
  • 1 cup sultanas
  • ½ cup water
How to Make It
  1. Place flour, mixed spice, cinnamon, nutmeg, brown sugar and sultanas into a bowl and stir to combine.
  2. Stir egg and enough milk into dry ingredients to form a soft dough.
  3. Using your hands, form the dough into small round even sized buns.
  4. Place buns on a lightly floured trivet in a camp oven.
  5. Combine the flour and water to make a soft paste and place into a zip lock bag. Snip off the corner and draw crosses on top of the buns.
  6. Place the lid on the camp oven and bake until golden brown.
