This dish also goes well with spicy savory dishes. In Mysore, we make a variety of fruit salads. These are called rasayana. Some of the most popular are Banana Rasayana, Mixed Fruit Rasayana and Mango Rasayana. Mixed Fruit Rasayana has the most energy. In South India, Banana Rasayana and Sweet Pongal are served in Temples.

Ingredients

  • 1½ kg (3 lb) bananas, sliced
  • 1-2 Tbs coconut, grated
  • 4-5 cardamom pods, crushed, discard husks
  • jaggery, sugar or honey to taste
How to Make It
  1. Place the bananas into a serving bowl. Add the coconut, cardamom, and jaggery, sugar or honey. Mix well.
  2. Chill for 10-15 minutes.
